Spring 2012 Fashion Weeks have come and gone and in just a few weeks, Pre-Fall 2012 collections will debut. Of course this means nothing for Tom Ford, who only chooses to release images of his collections just weeks before they debut in stores.
He showed his Spring 2012 collection months ago in September in London, but the looks have just now surfaced. Naturally, the buzz around it was so great because no photographers were allowed, truly going against everything that fashion has become today, with collections uploaded to the Internet just hours after they debut. This is a policy Mr. Ford put into effect since he returned to womenswear, reminiscent of what runway shows used to be decades ago.
Simply put, Tom Ford makes classic clothing. Though he is a trendsetter and will surely inspire the upcoming collections of other designers, trends aren’t what he is focused on because the woman who can afford his pieces isn’t worrying about what’s “in” and probably never has. His designs are investments that you can wear over and over again and that instantly become the favorite pieces in your wardrobe.
Sensuality is a big component of anything he does. Bustier dresses, sheer blouses, plunging necklines: these are looks for the woman who is confident in her style and her shape. Separates are huge in the collection, for the woman who does much more than just walk the red carpet in high-fashion dresses: form-fitting pencil skirts, expertly-tailored jackets and blazers, easy pants and so much more. The fabrics and textures are out of this world including double-stretch satin, python and velvet, among others.
I cannot wait to see who wears this collection. Joan Smalls, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Olivia Wilde are already fans and I would love to see them in some of these looks both on and off the red carpet.
